Solar Powered Coffee Roaster

The Hartkops brothers, David and Michael, have built a solar powered coffee roaster that handles 3 pounds of beans at a time. That’s pretty small. But its also pretty cool. And they’re working on one that will roast 30 pounds at a time.

The small roaster is big enough to supply their cafe and internet orders for their all organic and fair trade bean roasting business called, appropriately enough, Solar Roast Coffee. According to an article in Sustainable Industries magazine, they don’t plan to sell the soon-to-be patented machine to other microroasters in the US. Instead, they apparently are intending to sell it to coffee farmers.

That is super cool. 3 lbs is micro micro roasting. I’d love to see how the farmers put it to use. It’d be great for sample roasts.

Hmm, yeah. I guess it would be pretty cool to equip farmers for doing their own roastings and tastings.

Chounthavong – I’m afraid you’ll have to contact the company for a quote. I was only writing about them here – I’m not affiliated with the company in any way. Their website is http://www.solarroast.com.

    Cheers,
